Celebration of 77th Independence Day of India

The 77th Independence Day of India was celebrated at Consulate General premises on Tuesday, 15 August 2023. The ceremony was attended by a number of Indians, Diaspora members, and friends of India, and was livestreamed to facilitate virtual attendance. Consul General of India in Medan, Mr. Shubham Singh, hoisted the Indian national flag, which was followed by singing of the National Anthem of India, Jana Gana Mana. Consul General addressed the gathering and spoke about India’s struggle to freedom. Consul General also highlighted the growth India undertook since independence and acknowledged the contributions of Indian diaspora in India and Indonesia. Some short series of cultural programmes were also exhibited. This included classical Indian dance performances like Bharatnatyam and Thillana, as well as a fusion of Indonesia's national dances. This celebration exemplified the deep-rooted ties between India and Indonesia, showcasing the essence of unity in diversity.  These performances were presented by members of the Indian and Indian-origin-Indonesian community. Approximately, 150 people attended the Independence Day event.
