India Tourism Seminar on 26 November, 2019

The Consulate General of India in Medan and the India Tourism Office in Singapore jointly organized the ‘India Tourism Seminar’ on 26 November at Medan. The event focused on India as a Buddhist destination and on Andaman and Nicobar Islands and explored possibilities of expanding cooperation in tourism sector between India and Indonesia.  Ms. Sudeshna Ramkumar, Assistant Director, India Tourism Office, Singapore made a presentation on the Buddhist circuit and India as an attractive tourist destination. Consul General Raghu Gururaj stated that India’s soft power has greater resonance and connection with Southeast Asia and that the spread of Buddhism to Southeast Asia was, and continues to be an important aspect of the shared civilizational culture with Southeast Asia. He further urged tour operators to take advantage of the immense existing potential for deepening tourism between India and Indonesia. Ms. Martina Silaban, Head of State Museum represented the Government of North Sumatra. Mr. Surya Salim, Deputy Chairman, ASITA and Venerable Bhadra Pala from the Indonesia Budhayan Council highlighted the sacred Buddhist sites in India and urged the tour operators to market these packages actively. A tea tasting of Indian teas was also organized on the sidelines. The event attracted more than 60 tour operators from North Sumatra.
